Federal Tax Credits

On December 17, 2010, President Obama signed the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010. This law extends the tax credits for energy efficiency into 2011, BUT at lower levels. The levels revert back to those in effect in 2006 and 2007, which were 10% of the cost of the improvement, up to $500, with a $200 max for windows, and several other set maximums. This bill allows up to $500.00 of Tax Credits for HVAC improvements during 2011 through 2016 tax years. Qualifying Air Conditioners are rated 16 SEER or higher and Heat Pumps are rated 15 SEER or higher. Gas Furnaces have to be 95% AFUE or higher to qualify.

Utilities Rebates

Atlanta Gas Light Co. - If you replaced your electric heat pump with a natural gas furnace before Dec. 31, 2011, you have until Feb. 15, 2012 to submit your rebate application. No late submissions will be honored.

Georgia Power Company - $400.00 customer rebate for converting from a natural gas furnace to a 15 SEER or higher heat pump. $200.00 customer rebate for converting from a natural gas furnace to a 13-14.9 SEER heat pump. This offer is good through August 31, 2012.

Sawnee Electric Co. Sawnee Electric has many incentives including $50.00 per ton to replace your Heat Pump or A/C unit with a high efficient system, $25.00 on the purchase and installation of any programmable thermostat, duct sealing job or equipment tune-up.

Snapping Shoals EMC - Snapping Shoals EMC is currently offering rebates for high efficient Heat Pumps and A/C units. Check their site for more specific information.

GreyStone EMC - Up to $600.00 per unit customer rebate for changing fossil fuel heating system to an all electric OR dual fuel heat pump on existing homes. Home must meet other energy saving requirements to qualify (insulation, windows).

Walton EMC - Up to $200.00 on the Purchase and Installation of a Heat Pump replacing a Natural Gas Furnace. Rebates are also available for hot water heaters.
